SAN FRANCISCO  -- In honor of the victims and survivors of the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami, a community remembrance event will be held Sunday, March 11, at the Japantown Peace Plaza. The public is invited to participate in this free event to observe the one-year anniversary of the catastrophic disaster and to show continued support for the people of Japan.

The two-hour event, which will be at the Japantown Peace Plaza at Post and Buchanan streets, will begin at 2 p.m. and will observe a moment of silence at 2:46 p.m. -- the time the disaster struck Japan.

NBC Bay Area reporter George Kiriyama will be the emcee of the event.
